Das Heimathaus Wehdem

From Niedermehmen to Wehdem

The Low German two-storey house was built in the middle of the 19th century as a half-timbered structure in Niedermehmen and was used as a farmhouse for almost 150 years.

In the center was the hallway, which could also be entered by wagons through the large gate. On the sides, cows or horses were housed in the stables. At the end of the hall was the wider flet with the hearth, behind it were the heated parlor and the sleeping chambers.

The house was dismantled in Niedermehnen and rebuilt in Wehdem in 1990/91 by the Stemweder Heimatverein and the municipality of Stemwede with the support of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The Heimathaus shows historical household goods and furniture and informs about customs and history of the municipality of Stemwede. Behind the Heimathaus is the farmer's garden, a coach house and a bee house.
